Wow, it's been over a month since I last wrote. Before the Oceanside 70.3 race. Well, I did better than last year, but not quite as good as I would have liked. I didn't bonk on the run like last year, but my legs did start hurting. Actually they've been bugging since the marathon in February, so I'm not surprised they were giving me problems. I walked through all of the aid stations in the second loop of the race. But overall I was five minutes faster than last year.

Swim 41:07 slower than last year which bummed me out for the rest of the race.
T1 4:53 faster than last year
Bike 3:17:12 one minute slower, but it sure was windy
T2 3:07 faster than last year by a minute or two
Run 2:01:10
Total 6:07:??

I'm happy that I wasn't slower, but I know I can do better. Unfortunately, I probably won't be racing next year. Baby in the future.

I also did an off-road triathlon three weeks ago. Six other people did it with me and it was fun. I was, of course, hoping to win the whole thing again, but I finished 4th woman overall and 2nd in my age group. Happy with that.

I have been working on my running, since that was a problem in Oceanside. I am up to 7 miles right now, which I am happy with. I'm slowly increasing so not to injure myself. My left hip has been bugging, as well as my knees and left quad. I'm pretty sure I have IT-band problems with both of my legs and have been using a foam roller to help. I hope it's helping. About six weeks until next race and it's a half ironman in Boise. Excited.

Monday I ran a little over 7 miles.
Yesterday was a Pumpkin day. I did an at-home workout for 40 minutes.
Tonight I'm running again and possibly swimming.

Almost There!

Last week was a pretty good workout week. Monday I ran, my knees still hurt, so I didn't run far. Tuesday I swam 80 laps at AH pool. Wednesday, short run with Pumpkin and swim that night. Thursday, hill climbs on my bike during two hour ride. Friday, nothing. Saturday, speed workout at track. Sunday, two hour bike ride.

Monday-4 mile run. I think I have IT band issue so I've been doing stretches and it's helped. No pain on run. Tuesday night, swim. Tonight, short run? Tomorrow, short bike ride? Friday, nothing. Saturday, race day.

I think I can do better this year. My swimming is probably about the swim. T1 should be 1-2 minutes faster. I would like to be 5-10 minutes faster on bike. T2 should be 1 minute faster. Run should be 5-10 minutes faster. My goal is to break 6 hours, but I will be happy just going faster than last year.

It's getting closer!

Friday, March 5: Attempted to run 8 miles, but knees started hurting really bad after 4 miles. Unfortunately I was 4 miles out, so I had to jog/walk back. I'm pretty sure it's because I need new running shoes. I still haven't had time to get those yet, but hopefully I will on Wednesday.

Saturday, March 6: snowboarding

Sunday, March 7: snowboarding

Monday, March 8: Swam 100 laps in 45:50 minutes. Almost one minute faster than the previous week. I definitely felt like I got my groove back.

Tuesday, March 9: We got Pumpkin, our new dog. I rode my trainer for 1 hour, 15 minutes.

Wednesday, March 10: Four mile jog with Pumpkin. She was pretty tired from running with Skyler in the morning.

Thursday, March 11: 10 minutes jog with Pumpkin. Tried to ride my trainer, but she wouldn't let me. Only rode 15 minutes.

Friday, March 12: 20 minute run with Pumpkin.

Saturday, March 13: Track workout with Carrie and Kelly. Our hour. Two hour mountain bike ride that afternoon.

Sunday, March 14: Relaxing day with Pumpkin.

Monday, March 15: Hopefully going on a bike ride outside. To the beach and back.

12 MORE DAYS!

Behind

Ok, ok, I'm behind on reporting, but I promise that I am working out.

Last week:
Monday-Swim 100 laps at gym. 27.7/lap
Tuesday-Bike ride at home. 1 hour, 50 minutes.
Wednesday-Swimming with girls. 1 hour.
Thursday-Bike ride at home. 2 hours.
Friday-nothing
Saturday-Bike ride at home with Kelly. 1 hour, 45 minutes.
Sunday-speed interval workout with Kelly at track. 1 hour.

This week:
Monday-Swim 100 laps at gym. 28.0/lap
Tuesday-Bike ride at home. 1 hour.
Wednesday-Swimming with girls. 45 minutes.
Thursday-Bike ride at home. 1 hour, 20 minutes.
Today-probably nothing.
This weekend-snowboarding

I've been lacking on my running, but I've stepped it up with some bike training. I haven't been able to get outside to bike since it's been raining on the weekends only. Lame! But riding on my trainer will help me with my running too, so I'm not too worried about my run. Next week I would like to get two run workouts in, as well as a long bike ride on the weekend. Three weeks, yet I feel not ready. I think I was working out more last year, but I should check.

Surf City Marathon

I never dreamed I would ever run a marathon. Partly because I didn't think my legs could take it and partly because I had no desire to. Well, peer pressure got to me and I ran my first (and hopefully last) marathon on Sunday.

The weather was perfect, my outfit was cute, my friends were running next to me (for most of the time), and I almost beat my goal. I had no idea how tired I would get. I had planned on keeping a 8:55 pace the entire time and then sprinting the last three miles. Boy did I miscalculate that! We started losing time at the half-way mark and then hit the wall at around mile 22. I continued to run the entire time, without stopping. Finished in 4:03:45--three minutes slower than my goal, but I am still happy with my time.

Last week went pretty well.

Monday-spin class with Skyler. It was really fun having him there.

Thursday-swam 80 laps (1-1/4 miles) at AH gym (41:28 minutes).
Friday-nothing?
Saturday-snowboarded
Sunday-snowboarded

This week I am tapering for the marathon, so I am taking it pretty easy.

Monday-swam 78 laps at AH gym
Tuesday-ran an easy 3 miles
Tonight-not sure
Tomorrow-running an easy 3 miles
Friday-nothing
Saturday-nothing
Sunday-GAME TIME!

Weekly Update

Last week went ok.

Monday night I did a little swimming with Skyler.
Tuesday I did a cardio workout at the gym. Ran 1/2 mile (to get my legs working again). Then 30 minutes on stairmaster and 20 minutes on elliptical.
Wednesday night I swam with Carrie and Kelly. We didn't swim too much, probably only 25 laps.
Thursday I did the elliptical for 20 minutes then went to spin class for one hour.
Friday I did a Jillian Michaels workout video. I didn't realize I would be so sore from it. Too many squats I guess.
Saturday I did elliptical for 20 minutes then spin class for one hour.
Sunday I ran 10 miles at 9:00 mile pace.

I'm trying to focus more on biking, but the weather hasn't been allowing me to do that. I'm trying to get to as many spin classes as possible. I'm also tapering for my marathon. I will probably run 6 miles at the end of the week and then 3 miles twice the next week. Then the big day! Ahhh!

Hello 2010

Last week I officially starting my triathlon training for this season, although I've been training for a marathon in the meantime. Here's the run down for the past week.

Monday- Swam 96 laps (1-1/2 miles). Don't know time.
Tuesday-Interval running for 30 minutes then elliptical for 25 minutes.
Wednesday-off
Thursday-Spin class for 60 minutes, then swimming with Carrie for 60 minutes (1 mile total).
Friday-off
Saturday-Got on my road bike for first time in four months. It felt great! Rode to beach and back (27 miles).
Sunday-Ran 20 miles. Yes, I said 20 miles. 3 hours and 2 minutes. My goal for the marathon is less than four hours. To be more specific, 3 hours 55 minutes, 48 seconds (9:00 mile pace). I can do it!

15 miles!

I ran the furthest I've ever run in my life...15 miles! And I was sick doing it. Unfortunately, that showed in my time (9:19 mile average). Carrie and I are putting on the miles for training. This Sunday we will run the same distance, but run faster. Hopefully I will not be sick then.

sick

Well, I'm not sick, but Skyler has been. This has hampered my workout schedule since I would rather be at home with him than working out. Anyways, Sunday I ran 13.1 with Carrie and Kelly. We ran at a 9:00 mile pace (116 minutes). Not the greatest, but not bad for a 1/2 marathon. A 8:30 mile pace would be 1:51:20. That's what I ran the Disney 1/2 in. We are going to try to run every weekend, increasing the distance each week. Next week will be 15 miles.

Nothing Monday.

Yesterday I ran on the treadmill at the gym. I ran one mile at a 7:30 pace, then one minute rest. Repeated two more times. Ran one more mile at 8:00 pace. It felt good to run fast, but I feel like my endurance is fading. I need longer workouts, but I just don't have the time.

Tonight I am biking home from work (10 miles) and I will be swimming later tonight.

End of Week

Tuesday I ran at the gym. It wasn't pretty. I attempted to run 6 miles at a 7:30 pace but I failed miserably and then I could barely run fast at all. Ran a little under two miles at the 7:30 pace, but then had to slow down. Jogged for two minutes. Picked up pace to 7:30 again but only ran one mile. Jogged for two minutes. Ran one mile at 8:00 pace then jogged for two minutes. Ran 2 more miles at 8:00 pace with jogging in between. I felt horrible.

Wednesday I did an arm workout at home. Then went swimming with Carrie at the gym. We swam for about 30 minutes. We are going to try to go every Wednesday night.

Yesterday I did the elliptical for 30 minutes and the stairmaster for 20 minutes. I even did some jogging on the stairs.

Today is my day off.

Tomorrow I want to try to get on my road bike.

Sunday I will be running an informal half marathon with Carrie and Kelly. I need the endurance training.

Yikes!

Catchup
Thursday: Ran 10K in 48:56. I think it was 0.1 mile longer than a 10K. Still 30 seconds better than my time two years ago.

Friday: Bike to Black Star. 90 minute climb and 30 minute descent.

Saturday: Small at-home workout.

Monday: Swam at gym with Skyler for 30 minutes. 30 minutes of weights.

Tonight: I really need to get some long runs in, but it's so dark to run outside by myself. I plan on running 6 miles on the treadmill. That sounds so boring, but I need to do it. 7:30 mile.

Spoiler: I think I'm getting a Garmin 405 watch for Christmas! That will help me with my speed while I'm running.

Gym day

Yesterday I hit the gym. I did some staggered sprints (?). I ran one minute at 8.0 mph (7:30), then one minute at 9.0 mph (6:40). I did this for 1.15 miles. Then took a two minutes break then did it again for 1 mile. Finished with 30 minutes on stairmaster.

Today I would like to do some weights. No running or calves because I have a 10k race on Thursday morning....Dana Point Turkey Trot.

In the Dirt Triathlon

I rarely post pictures on here because I usually post them everywhere else, but I think this race deserves an exception.

Saturday I raced in the In the Dirt Triathlon at Vail Lake near Temecula. The race was a 1/2 swim, 13 mile mountain bike, and 4 mile trail run. It was a tough course, but a lot of fun! There were five of us who did the race.

Dave, Rhett, Skyler, me, and Todd.

Brandon was there to get some great pictures. I love this one of me on the bike.

I finished strong with a smile on my place. I knew I had accomplished something I didn't think was possible. I got FIRST PLACE out of all of the women. There weren't a ton of women racing, but it is still a pretty big deal. I was so excited!!!

Ask who was first out of the water? That was me, by one second. Sorry honey, maybe next time!

Catch-up

Looks like I have a week's worth of workouts to catch up on.

Saturday-8 mile run. About 68 minutes.

Monday-Ran on treadmill at gym. One mile 6:58, 2:00 rest, 6:58 mile. Then I got horrible cramps. Went home.

Tuesday-At-home arm workout. Cleaned house for two hours.

Today-nothing. My mom is taking me out for dinner. I need the workout. Maybe I'll wake up early tomorrow and go running. No better way to start off my birthday than an early-morning run.

Oh, I also decided to race in the In The Dirt Tri with Skyler on Saturday. 1/2 swim, 14 mile mountain bike, 4 mile run. I'm not as prepared as I could have been. I will do fine on the swim and run. I haven't had a lot of mountain bike time in lately. It will be fun though.

Swimming

I'm back into swimming! Yesterday I swam 108 laps (1-1/2 miles) in 48:20 minutes. It's not a horrible time, but I can definitely do better.

Tonight I'm going to a spin class.

My feet need a rest

Went to Mammoth last weekend. Snowboarded for a few hours. Saturday we hit the gym for three hours. A little carido, some core training, lots of weight lifting, and swimming.

Monday I did a long run. I didn't realize it would get dark so early. I was running in the pitch black night for half of my run. I ran 8 miles in 64 minutes. Not bad!

Yesterday I did a cardio workout at home.

Tonight I want to swim.

Don't Worry

I may not be up to date, but I am still working out. Sunday was the Muddy Buddy. Skyler and I placed 2nd in our age group! We were so excited to be on the podium together.

Monday I swam.

Tuesday I ran at the gym. 6:58 mile on the treadmill. Then a 7:30 mile. Then cool down. Followed by 30 minutes on stairmaster.

Yesterday did a short ab workout at home.

Today I want to run far and fast!
